Longer or shorter periods

Records may be kept for longer where this is required by law, to establish, exercise or defend legal claims, for safeguarding or fraud-prevention reasons, or where there is an active dispute, investigation or regulatory requirement. Records may be deleted sooner where they are no longer needed for the purpose they were collected for.

How periods are applied

Periods normally run from the last meaningful contact, the end of the relationship, the closure of a complaint or the end of the relevant financial year, as set out above. At the end of a period, records are deleted or anonymised. Copies held in routine backups are removed as those backups rotate.
